The Bible teaches us to be cautious about spiritual adultery. Spiritual adultery refers to the unfaithfulness of believers to God. When believers live happily without obeying God’s commandments, they commit spiritual adultery. Spiritual adultery is not following God’s command, as marital relations outside of marriage violate the marriage covenant.
The disobedience of the nation of Israel to God is marked as spiritual adultery. The nation of Israel was God’s chosen nation, and God loved this nation. But this nation repeatedly abandoned their God and worshipped other gods. They worshipped the golden calf, worshipped the god Baal, and with it they committed spiritual adultery.
This spiritual adultery is not limited to the Old Testament. When we fail to obey God’s commands by believing in the New Testament, we also become adulterers in God’s sight. We must obey all that God tells us to do through His Word.
We must walk in such a way as to be able to obey every word of God. Jesus says there are two paths before us: a narrow one and a wide one. When we go through this narrow path, we can keep God’s commandments. When we walk in that wide path, we spiritually commit adultery.
Let us not forsake God for anything. But we need to be willing to give up everything for God. In this way, if we live a God-centered life, we will be able to obey God’s commands at every moment of life. We must try not to abandon God in any way. In the Old Testament, we see how God punished the nation of Israel when they committed adultery spiritually.
Let us fear God and then live by faith. Because God sees everything we do and will judge us in due time.
